⚱ Second Church of the Kykeon

Membership

The Second Church of the Kykeon has one criterion for membership. You are a member if you can meditate effortlessly for 15 minutes. You certify this yourself.

What “effortless” means

Most meditation instruction says to pick a focus, such as the breath, and gently return to it whenever the mind wanders. That is the heart of the practice, and it works. But it can tip into a quiet form of suppression, where uncomfortable parts of the mind are pushed away to keep up the appearance of peace.

The alternative is to notice which part of you pulled your attention away. Name it briefly (“worried part concerned about the presentation,” “sad part missing Mom”), then resume. Review the notes afterward and give those parts the care they were asking for.

Do this consistently and something changes. Parts that have learned you are trustworthy step back willingly when you ask for their cooperation. The sitting stops being a struggle. The less you force it, the more your Self shines through, like a quiet lake reflecting the sky once the ripples settle.

That quality is what we mean by effortless. It is not willpower disguised as calm. It is the absence of fight.

Why this criterion

Effortlessness is only possible with a measure of inner trust and harmony. It is evidence of Self-leadership. Those who pass the test may receive the sacrament. It is a blunt test, but blunt is better than nothing.

How to certify

  1. Sit for 15 minutes with any focus you like.
  2. If the sitting felt effortless, you are a member. If it did not, you are a catechumen. Keep practicing and try again.

There is no form to submit.

The sacrament

Members who pass the test may receive the sacrament, the kykeon of the Eleusinian Mysteries. Learn about the sacrament.
